So I’ve been revisiting some old games this week just for the nostalgia and I’ve learned something interesting about myself. I may have been the ultimate Mortal Kombat champion among my elementary school friends but those skills do NOT age well. After spending hours frustratingly trying to execute special moves and taxing my button combination rapid memory recall to it’s limits I finally had to give up.
Countless times I’d have the CPU’s character woozy and ripe for a fatality only to make my character crouch, crouch, jump, jump, and swat at the air like Richard Simmons at a rave on acid. I am out of practice, I just don’t have the same skills I had gained as a kid from hours of endless playtime with my friends. So this week, besides one game review I have to complete, I’m dedicating my gaming hours to games only made before 1996 to try and regain some of those skills.
What older games have you gone back and played lately and what was your experience like? Were you still good at it? Was the game still as fun as you remembered it?
