EXP Restaurant and Bar opened in Vancouver last August and has quickly become the second home of The Button Mash. It’s the first video game bar in Vancouver and a social hub for geeks and gamers alike. You can order your favorite video game inspired drinks and enjoy similarly inspired food like my absolute favorite, the Triforce Burger, while immersed in a video game atmosphere.
They also have a really engaging points system where you can “level up” and redeem points for discounts, free food and even have your name carved into a metal by “tiny ninjas” then have it mounted on the table of your choice. which is a perfect example of the unique venue they are, a place for gamers by folks who understand gamers. Simply put EXP Bar is a place where good food, good people and gaming come together for an ultra-combo of awesomeness.
While the video game theme is fun the really inspiring story behind EXP is their love and passion for the video game community. EXP was founded by video game developers and people who genuinely care about this hobby we all love and the people behind it, the gamers. Their goal is to change the public’s negative perception of a gamer and destroy the stereotype that we’re a bunch of basement dwelling teenagers. What they mean to prove is that gamers like you and I are social people who love to share our passion in a mature adult environment. In my opinion EXP has done it and in fact become more than a restaurant or bar. It’s a community hub that hosts all kinds of events like launch parties, industry mixers, e-sport nights and charity events and they are always looking for more ways to give back to the community.
The Button Mash was started because we wanted to promote and support the video game and geek community through online entertainment. So it’s amazing to see a place in town with good food and drink, doing just that. So for originality, replay value and general awesomeness I give EXP Restaurant + Bar a 10/10.
